Isn’t it About Time Recruiters Learned HR?

Author: Eric Allgood CMgr CAHRI MAITD

I harp on about this frequently, I know; but the issue with recruitment companies is they hire salespeople and market them as someone who knows how to match a suitable candidate to your business. Someone with the wherewithal to match your company’s culture and the relevant skills sets to ensure you obtain the best return available for your company. Instead you get someone who is solely measured by their turnover and sales figures and is vaguely taught how to match words from a resume to your business – you’re in manufacturing, then manufacturing as a word MUST appear in the resume. You’d prefer someone with a certain qualification, then that MUST appear; not equivalent experience, just a word for word match, leaving the best candidates to those who know what they’re doing.

Don’t believe me? Then tell me what this company is really looking for in their recruiter job ad (please note: I have bolded a few items in the dot point section to emphasise my point, but I decided not to correct their grammar and spelling.
